Inauguration of Al-Maidan Square Rehabilitation Project and Battir Popular Market

Battir-Market-2017-2 Under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Battir Municipality and CCHP celebrated the completion of the rehabilitation works of Al-Maidan Square and Ein Al-Balad, implemented through the British Council in Partnership with Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and the inauguration of the Battir First Popular Market.

 

Mr. Tayseer Kattoursh, Battir mayor praised the role of CCHP for its efforts in reviving the heritage and preserving our cultural identity and contributing to job creation, especially in Battir, a World Heritage Site.

Battir-Market-2017-3 Arch. Issam Juha, director of CCHP welcomed the honorable guests and pointed out that the rehabilitated projects reduce unemployment by providing jobs and maintaining Palestinian heritage.  This project is a complement to the rehabilitation interventions to revive the ancient town of Battir and give it a touch of aesthetic and develop tourism. Arch. Juha thanked MOTA, Battir Municipality, Governorate, and British Council for UNESCO, owners of the building, project contractor, and CCHP staff for their continuous efforts in preserving the cultural heritage.

 

Battir-Market-2017-1 In turn, Mr. Ali Abu Srour, Deputy of MoTA stressed on the impact of these projects on the society and their role in the revival of the Old City through the vital programmes that encourage the influx of people to the area, and thanked all those who contributed to the success of the project and provide a headquarters the society.
