Decision to remove the World Heritage Site; “Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ: Church of the Nativity and the Pilgrimage Route” from the list of endangered World Heritage and its inclusion in the regular list.

During its 43rd session in July 2, 2019 in Baku-Azerbaijan, the World Heritage Committee decided to remove the World Heritage Site in Bethlehem from the list of endangered World Heritage sites, which was considered one of three sites inscribed on the list of endangered World Heritage in Palestine.

This decision came as a result of the extraordinary efforts made by the State of Palestine to restore and preserve the site through the Presidential Committee for the Restoration of the Church of the Nativity, through qualitative restoration work, especially for the church roof, mosaics, columns, etc., and also through the efforts represented in preparing the Management and Conservation Plan for the site, which was prepared by the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation – CCHP in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Municipality of Bethlehem and the UNESCO Office Ramallah, where the World Heritage Committee commended the State of Palestine for submitting the plan, which is one of the first plans in the region prepared through Palestinian Arab competencies.
