Signing Agreement for Dar Abu Sa'da Rehabilitation project in Beit Sahour

sada info Within the "Job Creation through Rehabilitation" Programme funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) and the municipality of Beit Sahour have signed an agreement to rehabilitate Dar Abu Sa'da building. The signing ceremony was attended by his Excellency Dr. Khaled Al Qawasmi; minister of local government, and representatives of the local organizations and institutions in the town.

 

Mr. Hani Abdul Maseeh, the Mayor of Beit Sahour, welcomed the guests through his speech, and pointed out to the importance of the project in revitalizing the historic town of Beit Sahour, followed by Architect Issam Juha, who indicated CCHP's in rehabilitating the traditional buildings and urban spaces, within a complete strategy for the conservation of the cultural heritage. The strategy aims at employing the cultural heritage resources as tools of development and reducing poverty.

 

A presentation was conducted by Architect Samia Murra – CCHP, explaining the current situation of the building, and the proposed plans for the building, which shall be adapted for the reuse for Beit Sahour municipality, and shall include in addition to the Mayor's office, the projects department and the public relations department.

 

sada sign At the end of the ceremony, his Excellency Dr. Al Qawasmi pointed out to the importance of both the municipality of Beit Sahour and CCHP in preserving our cultural heritage, through the various strategic plans that aim at development of the town, Dr. Al Qawasmi also expressed his gratitude to (Sida) for their funds.

 

In addition to Dar Abu Sa'da, CCHP within the "Job Creation through Rehabilitation" Programme has managed to rehabilitate both Dar Qumsieh in 2006, and Dar Al Shomali in 2009. Dar Qumsieh has been adapted for the reuse as a restaurant and an art centre "Dar Al Balad Artisana and Restaurant", while Dar Al Shomali was adapted for the reuse for Rafiq Al-Darb Society for Special Needs.
