Mr. Ali Thawabteh director of the Municipality welcomed the audience and commended the efforts of all parties seeking to preserve the cultural heritage through such initiatives and projects, which have the influence on strengthening the relationship between the people and their heritage.
Arch. Issam Juha, director of the CCHP pointed out that this project lies under the programme "Job Creation through Rehabilitation" which aims at decreasing the percentage of the unemployment rate through preserving the cultural heritage. This programme has created more than 50.000 working days for around 3,000 local workers. As well, Juha draw the attention to the fact that the CCHP has been able till now to rehabilitate more than 20 buildings and prepare them for adaptive reuse. Through these projects, the CCHP tends to create job opportunities, enhance the role of the local organizations and develop the local community, and preserve those traditional, historical and valuable buildings.
On behalf of the Beit Fajjar Intellectual Student Forum I.S.F. and Beit Fajjar Workers Union, Mr. Mohammed Takatkeh expressed his appreciation and happiness for such initiatives that provide the ideal place for local organizations to achieve their goals and objectives, thanking all parties contributed to the success of this project.
Mr. Axel Vernhoff said that the Swedish Government is proud of the work it's supporting in preserving the Palestinian cultural heritage, and emphasized on the importance of such projects in supporting the Palestinian people to establish their institutions and community.
In conclusion, the CCHP, the Beit Fajjar Municipality and partner organizations accompanied the Swedish delegation on a tour around the town, where the delegation had the chance to visit the buildings rehabilitated by the CCHP in the past five years.
