Field Trip to Battir Landscape Eco-museum

Battir enginassoc 2012 As a part of the advocacy campaign that accompanies the implementation of the "Management and Conservation of Natural and Cultural Resources in Bethlehem Governorate: Battir Landscape Eco-museum project"; the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation – Bethlehem (CCHP) and Engineering Association – Jerusalem Centre/ Bethlehem Branch  cordially organized a field trip on Friday, 28 Sep.2012.

 

The trip targeted The Engineering Association and CCHP employees, representatives from Bethlehem Municipality, Beit Jala Municipality and Beit Sahour Municipality, and also representatives from Engineering offices who explored the hiking trail that connects Al-Makhrour/Beit Jala with the Village of Battir.

 

The trip was organized in cooperation with Battir Landscape Eco-museum office, and aimed to introduce the participants to the cultural and urban tourism sites in the governorate. The trip started by walking the way trail from Al-Makhrour area (Beit Jala city) to the village of Battir. Along the walk, Hassan M'amour the representative of Battir Landscape Eco-museum gave notes about the rehabilitation and management of cultural routes and the role of cultural tourism in development, in addition to historic information about Makhrour-Battir Route.

 

Battir enginassoc1 2012 Reaching Battir village the group toured the city, its famous spring, the farming methods in the Palestinian villages, and one of the rehabilitated projects used as a locale for Battir Landscape Eco-museum Office; the ending point of the trail, where the participants had lunch and had an entertainment programme.  The participants have enjoyed the field trip and described their visit as adventurous, interesting and a clear example of the rich variety of cultural landscapes in Palestine which represents the product of a continuous human interaction with the surrounding land. Moreover, the participants assure that they will revisit the village with their own families.

 

Battir Landscape Eco-museum is a project implemented by Battir Village Council in cooperation with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation – Bethlehem (CCHP), the technical consultant, and is funded by the Government of Italy through the Palestinian Municipalities Support Programme (PMSP).

 

It is worth mentioning that Battir Landscape Eco-museum responds to the inclusion of Battir "Palestine Lands of Olives and Grapes" on Palestine's "Inventory of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Potential Outstanding Universal Value in Palestine."
