Proclaiming the Charter on the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in Palestine (The Palestine Charter)

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, H.E. Ms. Rula Ma'aya, has proclaimed the Charter on the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in Palestine "The Palestine Charter" during a press conference that was held in Jacir Palace Hotel in Bethlehem on Wednesday, 6 February 2013, and attended by representatives of governmental agencies, national non-governmental stakeholders, local bodies, and academic institutions.  The Permanent Palestinian Delegation to UNESCO also deposited a copy of the Charter to the director of the World Heritage Centre in Paris.

 

The Palestine Charter was facilitated in Palestine by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities following the full membership of Palestine in UNESCO, in participatory workshops that were attended by representatives of governmental agencies, national non-governmental stakeholders, local bodies, and academic institutions, as was drafted by the ministry in cooperation with the various partners that attended the workshops and ICOMOS Palestine.

 

The Palestine Charter is a participatory accord that provides a national framework for the sustainable conservation and management of cultural heritage.

 

The Charter on the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in Palestine (The Palestine Charter) was prepared in cooperation with ICCROM and the UNESCO office in Ramallah, with financial and technical support from the Government of Malta and specialist advice provided by the EuroMed Heritage Programme.
