Shepherds' Field is located in Beit Sahour, a short distance to the east of the City of Bethlehem. Three churches are built over and around the cave where the shepherds sat when they saw the star shining in the sky. Every year on the Feast of the Shepherds this route is reenacted. A procession of candles starts from Shepherds’ Field through the old core of the town of Beit Sahour and past Bir Al-Sida (The Virgin’s Well), the holy place where the Virgin Mary appeared many times. The procession then continues along the Milk Grotto Street and heads toward the Church of the Nativity. This procession takes place on December 24 for the Catholics and on January 6 for the Greek Orthodox.
