Community Mapping Programme for the Historic Town of Beit Sahour

Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) in cooperation with the Beit Sahour Municipality are preparing a comprehensive protection and development emergency plan for the Historic Town. This plan is a short term plan that shall contribute to the efforts generated to preserve the Historic towns which was recently strengthen through the implementation of the "Bethlehem area Conservation and Management Plan" for the three Historic Towns in Bethlehem, Beit Jala, and Beit Sahour funded by Italian Cooperation under the technical support of the UNESCO.

 

Several Key persons from local and international organizations, representatives of foreign consulates and local inhabitants attended the workshop organized by CCHP and the Municipality of Beit Sahour, which was held at Dar Dakkarat on the 7th of August.

 

Mr. Hani Hayek, mayor of Beit Sahour Municipality pointed out the fact that there are many different benefits that are expecting to be generated through the protection and development emergency plan for the Historic Town of Beit Sahour. As well, he stressed on the important role of the community in the planning process for the protection and development of the Historic Town, which has an important cultural and religious value.

 

c.m.beit sahour Eng. Issam Juha, director of CCHP presented a power point explaining the objective of the plan and its Visions, and the possibilities to development this plan within the framework of the "Bethlehem area Conservation and Management Plan".

Several suggestions were introduced by the participants regarding the expected orientations and objectives from this Plan and their aims to improve the economy and the living conditions for the inhabitants of the historic town.
