Birthplace of Jesus: Church of the Nativity and the Pilgrimage Route
Referring to agenda item 157/1998 of UNESCO General assembly in its 35th session, which recalled the fact that the Palestinian city of Bethlehem is the birthplace of Jesus Christ and one of the most historic and significant sites on earth, and recalling the decision of the World Heritage Committee (during its 26th session held in Budapest on June-2002 which have recognized the Palestinian cultural and natural heritage and its outstanding universal value and called to protect it.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in cooperation with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation in Bethlehem and Bethlehem Municipality under the technical supervision of the UNESCO Office - Ramallah, prepared and submitted the nomination documents to the World Heritage Committee for inscribing Bethlehem on the World Heritage List. The project was funded by the World Heritage Fund.
