The first day, Thursday, January 12th, of the workshop was held at Bethlehem Peace Centre, during which H.E. Dr. Khouloud Deibes welcomed the visitors and gave them an overview on the tourism sector in general, and Mr. Sami Khoury presented a detailed study on the tourism sector on Bethlehem District; the two interventions were followed with a detailed discussion during which both Dr. Deibes and Mr. Khoury answered questions.
During the second part of the day, Mr. Issam Juha Director of CCHP presented the centre and its work, followed by presentations on the Upgrading of Al-Madbaseh Street in Bethlehem by Arch. Ghadeer Al-Najjar, the Re-qualification of Beit-Sahour Marketplace by Arch. Luma Khoury and the Rehabilitation of the Syriac Hosh by Arch. Faten Lafi. In addition, an overview to the Battir Landscape Eco-museum BLE was presented by Eng. Hassan Muamar, who represented the Battir Landscape Eco-museum Office, after which the students were divided to groups and were required to present an analysis of the various projects.
The students spent Friday, January 13th, and Monday, January 16th, in CCHP and BLE Office during which they explored the sites, and interviewed the various stakeholders, a meeting with the Mayor of Bethlehem, Dr. Victor Batarseh, Mr. Zughbi Zughbi, a Council Member from Bethlehem Municipality and the Director of the Palestinian Centre for Conflict Resolution – Wi'am and Mr. Tony Marcos, the Director of Bethlehem Municipality also took place on Monday.
On Thursday morning, and before their departure, the students submitted and discussed with their supervisors, representative of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Bethlehem Municipality, Alternative Tourism Group and the Center for Cultural Heritage Preservation their initial comments on the proposed projects, on which they shall continue to work and develop.
