Dar Saba Signing agreement in Beit Sahour

saba sign Within its wide collection of rehabilitation projects funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency "Sida" through United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization (UNESCO) Ramallah Office, Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation has signed the agreements to rehabilitate Dar Saba in Beit Sahour, with Al-Malath Charitable Society, partner organization who will be using the building after rehabilitation, and owner of the building, where Beit Sahour Municipality witnessed the signing.

 

CCHP in cooperation with Al-Malath Charitable Society organized a meeting to introduce the importance of the project, to local organizations, inhabitants of Beit Sahour and neighbors of the project.

  
Mr. Hani Al-Hayek, Mayor of Beit Sahour praised the role of the CCHP in adapting our traditional buildings and preserving the cultural identity, and stressed the need to protect such sites and buildings providing headquarters for the local organizations to serve the community.


 
saba info Arch Issam Juha, Director of the CCHP pointed out that this project is part of the programme "Job Creation through Rehabilitation Works", initiated by the centre in 2005 and funded from the Swedish Government through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency "Sida".

Through this programme, the CCHP has been able to rehabilitate more than 27 buildings in Bethlehem District, providing around 55.000 working days for more than 3.000 workers.  Moreover, Arch. Juha indicated that the CCHP and the Beit Sahour will be cooperating to implement future projects in the area, such as the Urban Requalification of Old Market Square in Beit Sahour, Dar Al-Shomali and others which shall be an attraction point to locals and tourists alike.

  
Mrs. Ghada Issac, Chairman of Al-Malath Charitable Society, presented a brief description about the organization's history, its goals, and programmes, which provide the necessary training for young people with disabilities so they can reach to a sufficient level of independence, through the integrated treatment programme of physical and mental rehabilitation, and to acquire the daily life skills.

 

Arch. Luma Qumsieh - Khoury has submitted another presentation including the strategy of the Centre in preserving cultural heritage and the implementation phases of the project, which includes the proposed designs and functions.

 

A Slide show by Ms. Mays Salsa', Head of Public Awareness and PR was presented to strengthen the partnership between the Centre and the institutions of civil society in order to protect the cultural heritage and preserve it, which affect in the maintenance of the elements of national identity and propel the national economy. In addition to displaying pictures of some projects of the Centre before and after rehabilitation.

 

In conclusion, all parties thanked Sida and the owner of the building who was cooperative in adapting his building to serve the community and its institutions.
