"THE TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE THAT EXISTS FROM PREVIOUS GENERATIONS PROVIDES A LINK BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PAST"

Al-Khader Street Inauguration

al-khader inaug2 Under the programme "Local Development through the Rehabilitation and Revitalization of the Historic Built Environment in Palestine" implemented by Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) in Bethlehem district and funded by the Government of Sweden - Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency "Sida" through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO" - Ramallah Office, CCHP celebrated the completion of the "Development Plan and Rehabilitation of the Main Street of the Historic Centre of Al-Khader" Project, under the patronage of H.E. Rola Ma'aia, minister of Tourism and Antiquities.

 

Mr. Tawfiq Salah; Mayor of Al-Khader welcomed the audience and praised the role of CCHP in this project and explained the importance of preserving our culture as a form of the Palestinian existence such as this vital project. He also shed the light about the touristic importance of Al-Khader and the need to improve tourism in the city.

 

CCHP Director, Arch. Issam Juha pointed out that such projects are part of the "Local Development through the Rehabilitation and Revitalization of the Historic Built Environment in Palestine" that aims at enhancing the condition of the old town, revitalizing Al-Khader's centre and establishing a better infrastructure. Arch. Issam Juha thanked the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities for their continuous support, Al-Khader Municipality and the CCHP staff in general and Arch. Muhammad Kattoush in particular as the Project's supervisor and the contractor of the project.

  

al-khader inaug H.E. Rola Ma'aia emphasized the importance of the area and the importance of such projects in improving and encouraging tourism which has a positive effect on the inhabitants of the area and the area itself. She also stressed on the importance of prolonging the tourists' stay and making tours in different parts of the country not just the usual touristic places.

 

At the end of the event, each of Mr. Tawfiq Salah, Arch. Issam Juha, Mr. Haron and Mr. Bassam Jabr from the directorate of Education – Bethlehem planted flowers in the garden rehabilitated by CCHP.
