Ms. Vera Baboun mayor of Bethlehem welcomed the audience and reinforced the need to protect and preserve our cultural heritage and the Palestinian architecture especially in Bethlehem. Therefore, in cooperation with CCHP, Bethlehem Municipality has worked on launching the Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem as Bethlehem is under the injustice action by the occupation. The Mayor reinforced the importance of each and every individual in preserving our heritage.
Arc. Issam Juha; the director of CCHP emphasized on the outcomes of the project in preserving and managing the cultural heritage. He shed the light on the centre efforts in preserving the Palestinian cultural heritage in general and the project partners' role in making the project a success and preserving our cultural heritage. Arch. Juha reinforced the importance of cooperation to maintain and preserve our Palestinian cultural heritage.
The project coordinator; Nada Atrash did a PowerPoint presentation about the aims and outcomes of the Heritage for Development project. One of the main and important outcomes of the project was adopting the Bylaws for the Conservation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem and the Traditional Individual Buildings and launching the Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem. Mr. Marwan Abu Khalaf of the Arab-European Foundation presented the evaluation stages and the outcomes and its affect on the local community, focusing on the importance of the cooperation between the local and international organizations to preserve our cultural heritage.
Dr. Ahmad Al-Rjoub, the director of the South Directorate, presented the Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem. The manual was made to meet the needs of the inhabitants and reinforce the importance of the cultural heritage status of Bethlehem.
Mr. Mousa Hadid; mayor of Ramallah paid tribute to each and everyone who have participated in making the project a success and highlighted the importance of the developing and preserving the historical centre. Supporting his speech, Nada Habash; a member of Ramallah Municipality and the technical team talked about the outcomes of the Heritage for Development in Ramallah that included launching a Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Ramallah and setting a strategic plan for rehabilitating the city centre.
A Skype video call was made with Arch. Leen Fakhouri in which she presented the outcomes of the project in As-Salt through a partnership with As-Salt Municipality and Cultural Technologies. The outcomes included launching a Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of As-Salt.
In His speech, Mr. David Gear; the delegate of the European Union spoke of the importance of making such an entrepreneur project and the need of cooperation between the institutes to protect its cultural heritage and maintain its own identity.
On Behalf on the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Hamdan Taha thanked the projects' partners and focused on the importance of such project to the city that adopts the Bylaws for the Conservation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem and the Traditional Individual Buildings and launching the Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem.
In conclusion, CCHP thanked the partners of the Heritage for Development project by giving significant gifts, especially Mr. Anton Salaman and Mr. Rock Rock for their contribution in the Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem.
The Heritage for Development (Her4Dev): investing in people for the rehabilitation and management of historic towns project is funded by the European Commission under the "Investing in People – Development Cooperation Instrument: Strengthening Capacities in the Cultural Sector”, and is implemented by the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation in partnership with RehabiMed Association, Riwaq- Center for Architectural Conservation and Cultural Technologies. The project is implemented in cooperation with the municipalities of As Salt, Ramallah and Bethlehem.
