At the end of the ceremony, awards were distributed to the winning projects, where 23 different company submitted to this award organized by the Union of Contractors in the fields of buildings sectors, rehabilitation of historic buildings, roads, water and sanitation, purification, power plants, electricity, and mechanics sector. Among these projects is the rehabilitation project of Hosh Hanania in Bethlehem, that won the award of “rehabilitation of historic buildings” category.
It is noteworthy that this project has been done under the supervision of Centre For Cultural Heritage Preservation in Bethlehem, specialized in the rehabilitation of historic buildings and old neighborhoods, and implemented by Al-Aziz Contracting Company in 2012, with the fund of the Swedish International Development Agency "Sida."
The Hosh is located in the historic centre of Bethlehem in Star Street, and consists of five floors with an area approximately 650 m2, which suffered heavy damage in 1999 as a result of an unexpected landslides with its structure which led to the fall of the cross-vaults between floors in addition to the demolition of some of the main facades.
Because of the critical construction situation of the building, CCHP divided the project into two phases; first phase included the removal of waste and debris and consolidation of the building, while the second phase included the renovation and rehabilitation works of the building.
To protect the building and ensure its proper use, CCHP chose the partner organization to operate the building after rehabilitation based on a technical evaluation process. Currently, its operating by the Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem.
