German Group in Battir

German-group2016-3 As a part of the advocacy campaign carried out by the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation – Bethlehem (CCHP) to promote the Palestinian Heritage, CCHP organized a field trip to Battir on Wednesday, 21 September 2016. 

 

The trip targeted German group of journalists, educators, and public employees from the “German Federal Agency for Civic Education” in Bonn to explore Battir and its landscape. The trip was organized in cooperation with Battir Landscape Eco-museum office, with the aim to introduce the participants to the cultural and urban tourism sites in the governorate, and its potential.

 

German-group2016-1 The trip started by welcoming from the Battir Landscape Eco-museum at Dar Al-Bader which was rehabilitation by CCHP in 2007. After which Mrs. Mays Yatim-Salsa’, Head of PR and Community Outreach at CCHP presented an introduction about the centre, its objectives, and cultural heritage preservation projects in Palestine over a span of 15 years. In addition, Mrs. Mays discussed the Socio-economic impact of restoration and conservation project in rural Areas for CCHP.

 Afterward, the group toured the city and its famous spring. The group was introduced to the farming methods in the Palestinian villages. Along the walk, Wissam Oweineh the representative of Battir Landscape Eco-museum gave notes about the rehabilitation and management of cultural routes and the role of cultural tourism in developing Battir, in addition to historic information about the city. The visit ended at Dar Abu Hassan Guest House where they had a traditional lunch meal.

 

German-group2016-2 The participants have enjoyed their day in Battir and described their visit as adventurous, interesting and a clear example of the rich variety of the cultural landscapes in Palestine which represents the product of a continuous human interaction with the surrounding nature.
