The celebration was attended by the Governor of Bethlehem Mr. Abdul Fatah Hamayel, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Kholoud Deibes, Mr. Amro Amla General Director of Local Government Bethlehem, Mr. Abdullah Shakarnah Director of the Bethlehem Directorate of Education, Rev. Jadallah Shihadah pastor of the Lutheran Church, Mayor of Al-Ubeidyeh Mr. Suleiman Al-Assa, Director of Al-Ubeidyeh Youth Club Mr. Mohammad Radaydah and representatives of local organizations and inhabitants.
Al-Ubeidyeh Mayor praised the role of the CCHP in preserving the cultural heritage and called everyone in the community to cooperate work together to protect the cultural heritage as one important element and evidence on the Palestinian existence, especially in Al-Ubeidyeh for its historical and religious importance. As well, he thanked the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MOTA), Sida, owners of the building, Abraham Tent, and the Youth Club for managing the project.
Dr. Deibes thanked the Swedish Government for its continued support of infrastructure projects and traditional buildings to be used for productive, social, and cultural and health purposes. As well, she stressed on the importance of preserving the cultural heritage as part of the Palestinian struggle and promotes the cultural Identity, and praised the efforts of the CCHP in this field since 2001 and all who contributed to the success of the project.
Arhc. Juha pointed out that these two projects funded by Sida are part of the programme "Job creating through rehabilitation" which aims at decreasing the percentage of the unemployment rate through preserving the cultural heritage. This programme has created more than 55.000 working days. As well, Juha draw the attention to the fact that the CCHP has been able till now to rehabilitate more than 25 buildings and prepare them for adaptive reuse.
In his turn, Mr. Mohammad Radaydah thanked all those who contributed to the success of the project and facilitated works, which demonstrates the cooperation and partnership of the Palestinian people to protect the cultural heritage from destruction and damages.
Governor of Bethlehem, expressed his happiness to be in such place and pointed out to the importance role of the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) and efforts in preserving the cultural heritage in the Bethlehem District, and praised Al-Ubeidyeh Municipality for its activeness in implementing urban and infrastructure projects and beautifying the town.
The ceremony included choir signing and folklore dancing from Al-Ubeidyeh Secondary School for Girls, Al-Diwan Folklore Art and Abraham Tent.
At the end of the ceremony, Al-Ubeidyeh Municipality and Youth Club honored the MOTA, CCHP, contractor and owners of the building for their efforts in the project. After which, the audience had a tour in the project area, where they watched a presentation showing the building before and after rehabilitation and its phases prepared by the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP). It is noteworthy that the project cost 411.996 NIS and created around 1.792 working days.
