"THE TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE THAT EXISTS FROM PREVIOUS GENERATIONS PROVIDES A LINK BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PAST"

My Heritage, My Identity

1st htw1 Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation “CCHP”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, organized a lecture under the title "Heritage and Tourism", presented by Mr. George Saliba Rishmawi, director of Abraham Path.

The lecture took place on Saturday, January 23 at the centre hall, one of the most important topics that the Centre pays a lot of attention to through its projects and initiatives to preserve the cultural heritage in Palestine. This lectures is the first that comes among the centre’s campaign "My Heritage My Identity".

 

The lecture was attended by the Country director of the World Bank Mr. Steen Jorgensen, and a number of members of the World Bank, engineer Mazen Karam Bethlehem Development Foundation manager, and Dr. Wael Hamamreh of the Ministry of Tourism, and number of directors and representatives of local bodies and institutions.

1st htw2 Arch. Issam Juha, Director of CCHP welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of such lectures and their role in the development and activation of the local and international tourism, providing an overview about the centre and its projects and interventions that serve the community and preserve the cultural heritage in Palestine, and its relationship to the development of tourism and its benefits to the economy.

 

1st htw In return, Mr. George Saliba Rishmawi, director of the Abraham path and the lecturer, presented a PowerPoint presentation included several topics to emphasize the importance of heritage and its direct relationship to tourism, such as religious and archaeological monuments, natural resources, traditional architecture, and the Palestinian customs and traditions. He stressed, as well, on the importance of promoting Palestine, in a right way, with its rich monuments and heritage resources, where most of these resources is unknown for locals and internationals.

Participants expressed their appreciation for organizing such important and successful lecture, where they paid tribute to the work of the CCHP and its efforts in the preservation of cultural heritage in Palestine and cultural identity, and the work of the Abraham path to link this heritage with tourism. The lecture ended with questions from the participants, regarding the development of tourism and ways of doing so.
