"THE TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE THAT EXISTS FROM PREVIOUS GENERATIONS PROVIDES A LINK BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PAST"
In order to strengthen the relationship with and participation from the local community, Beit Sahour Municipality in cooperation with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) organized and held on Monday August 30, 2010 at Ush Ghurab "Workshop 3-Mobilization: Presentation & Discussion of the 2nd Draft Design" for the Urban Requalification of the Old Market Square Project in the historic centre. The project intends on replacing the existing market area with an open public square to accommodate locals and tourists. This project is funded by the Italian Government through the Palestinian Municipalities Support Program (PMSP) in partnership with four Italian partner municipalities (Anghiari, Rufina, Pelago, and Mira).
The CCHP has hosted at its quarter on Friday 27th of August, a group of 10th and 11th grade students from the Institute for Community Partnership ICP. An introduction presentation was given to this group about the centre and its goals, the importance of heritage and preserving it, and that it symbolizes the cultural identity and the Palestinian presence. In addition to presentation showing the buildings renovated by the Centre before and after rehabilitation.
The Beit Sahour Municipality in cooperation with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) organized and held on Thursday 29th July at Ush Ghurab "Workshop 1-Mobilization: Presentation & Discussion for the 1st Draft of Designs" for the Al-Souq Project in the historic centre. The project intends on replacing the existing market area with an open public square to accommodate locals and tourists. This project is funded by the Italian Government through the Palestinian Municipalities Support Program (PMSP).
Within the comprehensive work plan of the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) and its constant approach to enhance the performance and capacities of its staff and others, the CCHP has organized a workshop on the topics of Project Cycle Management (PCM), fund raising and the logical framework, which focused on good planning, management activities, decision-making procedures during the life-cycle of a project, organizing the work based on real needs, monitoring and evaluation. This workshop was presented by Mr. George Akroush.
Under the patronage of Dr. Kholoud Daibes, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, CCHP inaugurated Dar Al-Shomali Rehabilitation Project in Beit Sahour, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), which will serve as headquarter for Rafiq Al-Darb Society for People with Special Needs.
