"THE TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE THAT EXISTS FROM PREVIOUS GENERATIONS PROVIDES A LINK BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PAST"
Sina Institute at Birzeit University, with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) and University of Trento from Italy through its spin-off company OKKAM s.r.l, have deployed an innovative and pioneering electronic tourist guide for heritage sites in Bethlehem, using QR technologies. The initiative is part of the EU FP7 funded SIERA project.
In an urgent intervention of Bethlehem Municipality staff in the presence of the representatives of Bethlehem Governorate, police officers and Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP), Bethlehem Municipality stopped in the early Monday morning of August 29, 2014, the demolition act of an ancient frontal in Al-Najajreh quarter Parcel no. (7, 8, 9) of the block no. (28024), in order to open a new door for a commercial store which overlooks the main street.
Under the patronage of the Minister of the Tourism and Antiquities Rula Ma'aia, CCHP in partnership with Riwaq - Centre for Architectural Conservation, Cultural Technologies, and RehabiMed inaugurated the Heritage for Development project: investing in people for the rehabilitation and management of historic towns project is funded by the European Commission and launched the Manual for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Bethlehem, Ramallah and As-Salt. The closing ceremony took place on Thursday August 7, 2014 in the Peace Centre in the presence of extinguished guests representing the governmental, local and international organizations.
In cooperation with Terra Sancta Scouts and Bethlehem Municipality, CCHP have organized community work days in Bethlehem as part of the scout first summer camp named "Gaza is in our hearts" from Monday till Thursday the 7th of August 2014.
