"THE TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGE THAT EXISTS FROM PREVIOUS GENERATIONS PROVIDES A LINK BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PAST"
Under the programme "Local Development through the Rehabilitation and Revitalization of the Historic Built Environment in Palestine" implemented by Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) in Bethlehem district and funded by the Government of Sweden - Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency "Sida" through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO" - Ramallah Office, CCHP celebrated the completion of the "Development Plan and Rehabilitation of the Main Street of the Historic Centre of Al-Khader" Project, under the patronage of H.E. Rola Ma'aia, minister of Tourism and Antiquities.
Among the "Know Your Country" programme, CCHP organized a tour to Solomon's Pools in ArtasVillage on Tuesday 24th of June, with the participation of De La Salle Scout & Guide Group – Bethlehem. The tour was organized in cooperation with the Solomon Pools Resorts, aiming to introduce the group to the cultural and tourism sites in the governorate.
During its 38th Session held in Al-Doha - Qattar, The World Heritage Committee has inscribed Palestine; Land of Olives and Vines – the Cultural Landscape of Southern Jerusalem, Battir on UNESCO’s World Heritage endangered List. 11 countries were in favor of listing Battir whereas 3 countries were against the enlisting and 7 countries refrained on voting. Battir is the second site that has been enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage site after the full membership of Palestine in the UNESCO. Battir's inscription came after Bethlehem- the birthplace of Jesus: Church of the Nativity and the pilgrimage route in 2012.
Among its campaigns to introduce the various cultural heritage resources in Bethlehem District, and enhance the knowledge of the value and importance of these resources, CCHP organized a tour in the world heritage site, Star Street which comes as a part of the Bethlehem Live Festival activities, where around 60 youth participated.
Reconnaissance flights were performed by Bavarian air squadron number 304 (AF304b) between September 1917 and September 1918 as part of the operations of the German-Turkish Alliance towards the end of WWI.
